Money Saving Tips For A Green Wedding

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

One way to make your wedding green is to give consumables as your guest gifts. Coffee and tea wedding favors or chocolate wedding favors that come in biodegradable packaging is a great way to save your budget while saving the planet. There are many things you can do to do your part in saving our planet by planning your wedding in an eco-friendly way. Here are a few tips to get you started.

Wedding invitations can use a ton of paper. This means trees will have to sacrifice so that you can invite your guests to attend your special day. If this thought does not appeal to you, try using a tree friendly approach that helps save our planet. One way to invite guests and be creative at the same time is to set up a wedding website. This not only allows you to invite everyone on your list, you can provide maps, pictures, printable coupons and more. If websites are not your thing, go with recycled paper. Either way, you are setting a great example for everyone who attends that you are going green and hope that others will as well.

Make sure that you have a recycling plan established before the big day so that you can recycle any paper, plastics, and aluminum that you and your guests might use during your wedding and reception. If you are using a wedding hall, check and see if they provide that service in their clean-up contract. If they do, have someone stay behind just long enough to ensure that you are getting your money’s worth. If recycling is not part of the program, offer to clean up after yourself so that you can rest assure it is being done the correct way.

Use real plates and silver instead of all that plastic and stay away from Styrofoam all together. A Styrofoam cup or plate takes hundreds of years to degrade if at all. If you cannot afford to use the real thing, at least use recycled paper product for your wedding and reception and then recycle those. It is the next best thing to using the real McCoy and you will save money in the process. Remember, a little green goes a long, long way to keeping our environment clean and livable.

Use local vendors for all of your wedding and reception needs. Not only will you be stimulating your local economy, but you will also be cutting down on the fuel used by vendors to get to and from your event. Ask your guests to carpool to and from your wedding and your wedding reception. It is a great way to save on emissions and keep everyone together during transport.

You can also check with your vendors to see if they have green policies in place. You may have to shop around a little bit but there are caterers who use all environmentally safe products whenever possible to help keep our country and planet beautiful and safe. This holds especially true in the clean-up process. If you hire a company to clean up after your party, wedding, or reception, check to see if they are using clean products. These are products that do not contain harsh chemicals. They are made with environment safe, all natural products. Remember that the example you set could have lasting repercussions and possibly lead to others who enjoy themselves at your wedd

Why Keep Your Wedding Memories Online

Sunday, June 6th, 2010

Easy To Do You have a photographer all lined up for your wedding and you are giving your guests photo album wedding favors and wedding cameras. This is great and you will get a ton of great memories but have you thought about a videographer? If you have, does he or she include the internet as a posting option part of your paid package? If not, it is not difficult to find sites that will host your wedding videos and digital photos to share with your friends, family, and the world. You can also host them yourself with your very own website.

No More Paper Cuts Posting your wedding memories online on a video website or blog is a great way to share your memories with the world. There are dozens of sites online that will do this for a fee, either monthly or yearly or you can host them yourself for much less. It all depends upon how internet savvy you are and how much or little time and money you wish to invest. Imagine being able to pull up full color video of your wedding with a click of your finger. There is no more drudging to the coffee table and lifting that heavy photo album. Paper cuts are a thing of the past now that you can see everything online.

That Dreaded Remote Are you in the mood to watch your wedding video? Simply turn on your computer and click on the desktop link. Now you can watch your video over and over on your beautiful, full color monitor. It seems almost barbaric when we think about what we used to go through to watch our captured memories. Do you remember those days when you were forced to load that disc into a machine? That terrible feeling that we used to get finding the remote control and pushing those buttons was awful. It makes me shiver just thinking about it. How did we stand seeing ourselves on that great big flat screen with all that high definition? Actually, the worst part was having to snuggle up to our loved ones when we watched. Thank goodness, we can now sit in that big, comfortable computer chair and relax all by ourselves.

Sharing Your Memories One of the best things about having our wedding and reception videos and photographs online is that now, anyone can see them. For years, these personal moments were limited to just close personal friends and family. Now Aunt Harriett, who turns 90 next month can look up her password, which she keeps on a piece of paper taped to her wall, and watch us get married again. Fortunately, the cable repairman, who copied down the info from Aunt Harriett’s wall can watch too. He, and his brother, who just was released from prison can sit back and relax while they enjoy the shot of my front yard where the reception was held. I especially like the part where the photographer captures the house number and you can even see the street sign on the corner in the background, if you zoom in.

What A Wonderful World If it weren’t for the wonders of the internet, and the ability to post our favorite memories online, I don’t think anyone would get to see our children running and playing, secure in the knowledge that they are free from worry and safe from harm. What a wonderful world we live in now that we have the internet and our memories right where everyone can get to them, even that nice man who is sitting in that cable van out front with the laptop. You know the person; he is the one who slumped way down in his seat when my husband left for work. Why more people do not post their memories online is beyond me. I would sure like to watch their videos. I would bet many people would. Oops, I have to run. Someone is at the backdoor.

Representing Love and Unity With Wedding Favors

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

What is the true meaning of the word wedding? The mere word alone makes grown men weak in the knees, and inspires tears of wonderment and joy from a woman’s eyes. It makes hearts flutter, palms sweaty, and family and friends rejoice. But what does it mean really?

Everyone has their own idea of what a marriage and wedding should be. Just as no two people on this Earth are exactly alike, the same is also true about weddings. There are now two weddings on the planet that are exactly alike. Everyone wants their wedding to stand apart from all of the rest. They hire caterers to provide delicious meals for their guests to consume and enjoy, and even go out of their way to find unique wedding favors.

Weddings and marriage mean more then what color dress the bride wears, or what wedding favors are to be given out at the reception. They are about the joining of two kindred spirits and about uniting them to be one. Weddings, along with all of the hard work which goes into them all the way from the creative process to the exchanging of the rings, are about love. The ceremony is symbolic for the love shared between the bride and the groom, for all to experience.

The after parties thrown once the ceremony is over are for everyone present to relish in the ambiance, and glory exuded from their loved ones unity. Generally during the after party there are toasts made, memories shared for all that are present to chuckle at, and wishes of life long happiness for the unified couple to share together. All in all, the symbolism of a wedding is unity not just for the bride and the groom, but for all who attend as well.

People once would throw rice after the newly married couple would leave the ceremony and head to their awaiting vehicle. Alas as time has gone by, this tradition has been substituted with the throwing of confetti or flower petals. There are of course still celebrations in which as a symbol of love, peace, and unity, two white doves are released from a cage to fly off into the wild blue sky. These particular practices are a commemorative seal to the occurrence, meaning that they are done as a closing to the day’s event. After all is completed, the couple usually rushes off on their honeymoon.

All of these practices are included as part of a wedding. The fact is however that a wedding does not cease to be just because two people say “I do”. Every day which passes after the glitz and glam, is also considered to be a wedding. The reason is because the couple lives from that day forth in harmony, and unity as one. The mere word itself is just another formality and way of saying “as one”. It is a way to publicly proclaim that which is felt within a couples hearts and souls. It is a way to boldly assert all of the emotions in which one person makes another feel. It is complete acceptance of someone, a proclamation of “take me as I am with all of my flaws and imperfections”. It is the ultimate eye witness account of unconditional love. This is why everyone dreams of their own wedding, and why regardless of how it shall be celebrated, it will seem as perfect as a Hollywood love story with a happy ending.

3 Ways for Elegant Wedding Favors to Make Guests Happy

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

This year’s elegance in wedding style trends is extending a bit from the traditional white with black tux to bold elegant sashes on the brides and grooms vests in the color of the bridesmaids dresses. While white will forevermore be the color of weddings, the color scheme has expanded to a splashing stage for 2010. And, for the wedding theme, whether bright, bold color, or soft pastels, the theme is traditional elegance.

There is something sheer magical about the special day and having everything fit perfectly into place, right down to the wedding favors. For the bride and groom, the wedding favors are a big place in the wedding, as they are giving their guests a memorable token of the special day and a day that marks the beginning of their new life together. And, for the elegant wedding, the wedding favors must be elegant as well.

Most guests don’t skimp when it comes to a wedding. There is the purchasing of a new outfit involved, and a beautiful gift- and trust me, the gifts are about one of the nicest parts of the wedding. It is like a shopping spree for the bride and a huge savings for the groom. And, when the guests arrive at the reception, and see that they too are being appreciated, it is special. This year’s styles for elegant wedding favors have grown more than ever, as not only elegance but romance has entered the scene. So, begin with finding something that is truly elegant, unique, and that you want to be that special something for your guests.

Wedding favors do make guests happy, especially the women, and the men get a kick out of them too. After all, it is one of them entering into that new kingdom called matrimony. Consider your colors and find a color in the wedding favor that is complimentary, and by all means, have your names engraved on them. One of the popular elegant wedding favors this year is the dangling heart charm that is actually a name place for the place setting at the table. This truly is elegant and something that will be cherished. As the heart charm holds the name card of the guest and has the special day with the bride and grooms name as well. One favor that the men are sure to love is the wine opener, which is truly a nice gesture.

And, one of the guests that are often overlooked, are the children. Little girls especially are completely amazed with the magic of the magical day and when there is a special favor for the young child, it truly becomes memorable. One great suggestion for the elegant wedding favor for children is the crystal angle. This truly will have a special place on the table and in the hearts of the young ones for many years to come. You definitely will not have a single guest going away without the feeling of appreciation and glad that they were there to take part in the special day. Whether you are having a large wedding or a small, definitely be sure to decorate each place setting with a memorable token of the special day for your guests.

6 Beautiful Ways to Plan Your Christmas Wedding

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

This winter many brides are looking to have the perfect wedding. One theme that will be particularly popular is the holiday wedding. This type of wedding is one that is tied with the solemn beauty and joy of Christmas and is full of vibrant color and festive images. The challenge for a bride planning a Christmas ceremony and reception is to balance the theme with the wedding so that she can get the best of both. Here are some great tips to help you plan your Christmas nuptials.

Treat the ceremony and reception as two different events. The ceremony is by definition solemn. It is the portion where the actual marriage vows will be exchanged and finalized. So it makes sense that the holiday scenery will be more religious. For the sanctuary and church, try to have votive candles and religious art portraying the Nativity. Have subtle white blossomed flowers for your floral arrangement and ornamental holiday berries. The reception is essentially a celebration. So try to use bold holiday colors such as red, white, and green for maximum impact. You can include Santa figures and other holiday motifs. This will give the reception hall a more festive air.

For your ceremony, go for deep jewel tones that are rich in color and subdued. This will be a great color scheme for the clothing of your bridal party. Make sure that you match colors that will flatter your bridesmaids. A good idea for the dresses is to trim deep colored dresses with bright metallic colored ribbon. This will make a nice contrast that will blend well with the theme for your ceremony

In the case of your reception decorating your guest tables is important. Make sure that table linens, dinner ware, and cutlery all coordinate around common holiday colors and designs. You may want a festive look, but you don’t want it to look garish. For the centerpieces red poinsettias will make a great floral arrangement. You may also go for beautiful candles to be at the heart of your centerpieces.

For the menu serve holiday favorites such as Turkey and roast ham. You can also server traditional sides such as corn dressing, stuffing, potato salad, carrot salad. For drinks you can serve warm apple cider and warm spiced wine. Also have great desserts prepared for everyone to enjoy. Have pumpkin pie, apple pie, and other sweet baked desserts that will be sure to be enjoyed by all your guests. Also make sure to be aware of everyone’s allergies to food and have alternatives available.

For entertainment you can go with a DJ or local band but you can also have Santa come visit for the kids to make the requests known and have presents and games available for everyone to enjoy. The point is to make sure that everyone has a good time so try to diversify the entertainment so your reception like Christmas is something that guests of all ages can enjoy.

As your guests leave you also want them to have great souvenirs. You can give figurines, wine openers, or very useful shot glass or wine glass with your wedding date and initials on them. These are great mementos that they can keep to remind them of the great time that they had at your wonderful holiday wedding.

4 Autumn Tips for Unique Wedding Favors

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

This fall, brides everywhere are looking for innovative ideas to incorporate into their weddings. They want to find decorations, menus, and gifts that will help make their special day all the more unique and unforgettable for everyone that attends. This can be a monolithic task and it requires not only the planning of the bride, but the cooperation of the families of the bride and groom and friends participating in the wedding to pull it off. One of the key things a bride needs to focus on are unique wedding favors. These are gifts to thank guests for coming to the wedding and also souvenirs to remind them of the good time they had. If a bride uses the Fall season as a theme it becomes all the more important to find unique items that are great gifts and also represent the theme effectively so to constantly remind guest of the wedding long after the vows have been exchanged. If you are one those brides looking to have an exceptional fall wedding, here are some great ideas for unique fall wedding favors.

The first thing to decide is what type of Fall theme you want to have your gifts and ceremony based on. Fall has many different aspects to it so it is difficult to have a generic fall theme. For this reason many brides try to focus on one or two characteristics of autumn for their themes. Here are examples of some of them. There is the nature theme which focuses on the natural beauty of the fall season. This focuses on the changes plants and animals go through with the autumn season. Another aspect is the harvest theme. This focuses on the human side of fall with motifs of farms gathering in the ripe fruit and vegetables that fall provides. There are also themes linked with Autumn holidays such as Halloween and Thanksgiving. Deciding upon a fall theme helps to narrow down the favor choices for a bride so that she can focus on effective types of presents to give to her guests.

It is also important to choose gifts that will have some use for your guests. This is important because many traditional wedding favors are mostly temporary items that will be shortly tossed aside as garbage or junk except by the most dedicated collectors. Some great options are bath sets, grooming, kits, photo frames, and personalized cups and water bottles. The point is that a gift that can be used regularly is likely to be kept and if it is, it will be a constant reminder of the great time they enjoyed at the wedding.

A great tip for choosing fall wedding favors is to find new interpretations of traditional motifs. A great example are wine bottle stoppers. They traditional bottle stopper would probably have a carved leaf or apple at the end. However there are more novel bottle stoppers that are made of copper and have a 3 cutout of a leaf. The design is innovative blends perfectly with any fall theme. The same can found when looking for traditional favor items like figurines, picture frames, or even edible favors

Presentation is also key. Try to find great looking favor boxes that will be sure to be enjoyed by the guests. Try to find containers that match the fall motif in interesting ways. If you choose properly the containers themselves will be cherished as great mementos of your special day.
