It used to be that families traveled on vacation, spending money on airfare, hotels, and restaurants while away from home, but more and more people are keeping it low-key. Try to gather a group of friends who will camp out with you without the technological gadgets we’ve all come to rely on so you can be in touch with nature and each other while enjoying a night under the stars.

Money is always a factor when we think about a vacation, but you don’t need to spend a fortune to find fun during your time off from work. With a bit of research, you can find interesting sights to visit in your town and you can have a fabulous stay at home vacation you’ll really enjoy.

England’s South Coast Offers Something For Everyone

When staying in or near Southern England be sure to set some time aside to visit England’s south Coast. Southern England includes the southern counties of England bordering on the English Midlands. The government of the UK divides Southern England into South West England, South East England, Greater London and the East of England. Here are some places you won’t want to miss on England’s South Coast:

- Beachy Head: is named after the French Normans term “beau chef” or “beautiful head.” One can reach it by scenic footpath. It is famous for its striped lighthouse as well as it 3.5 mile or 6km long cliff path that passes through Cuckmere, Have and Seaford. This is a wonderful hiking opportunity.

- Bramber Castle: is on the west side of Bramber village and is an English Heritage property. The ruins of the castle gatehouse are from the original gatehouse built by the Normans.

- The Kent Battle of Britain Museum: can be found in Hawkinge. See the Luftwaffe Room, the Aircraft Armaments Room, the R.A.F. room and an art gallery all housed in an old armory.

- The Eurotunnel: is not to be missed. It crosses under the channel between France and Folkestone in Kent. It was complete in 1994 and is the fastest and newest transport system on the British coast. The visitor center is in Folkestone. There is also The Exhibition Centre in Cheriton which is west of Folkestone. This Centre explains the construction of the Eurotunnel.

- Borde Hill Gardens: in Haywards Heath is 200 acres of woods and parkland in Sussex. It is a well known botanical garden. It displays include incredible colour throughout all the seasons of the year.

- Romney Marsh: is 50,000 acres of flowers that extends along the coast from Hythe. Visit in the spring when the flowers are the most beautiful.

- Mermaid Street: offers enchanting strolls in Rye. You will see The Mermaid Inn, a 15th century pub notorious as a meeting place for smugglers. Henry James lived out his last years here in Lamb House, a 19th century Georgian building, while writing his beloved novels “The Wings of the Dove” and “The Golden Bowl”. Don’t miss the Old Hospital. It’s a triple-gabled, half timbered 15th to 16th century building.

- The Changing of the Guard: probably the number one tourist attraction in all of London. It was built as the London home of the Duke of Buckingham in 1702. The two groups of infantry and cavalry that guard the royal homes in London are called the Queen’s Guard and the Queen’s Life Guard.

- The London Eye: (or Millennium Wheel) is a huge Ferris wheel (443 feet or 135 metres tall). It is the tallest Ferris wheel in all of Europe and the most popular paid tourist attraction in the UK. You can find it at the western end of Jubilee Gardens on the South Bank of the River Thames in the borough of Lambeth.

- Princess Diana’s Memorial: was officially opened in July 2004 by Queen Elizabeth II. It was designed to express Princess Diana’s love of children. It is in the southwest corner of Hyde Park.
